Fax Software

Fax technology moved to the computer screen years ago, and now it is integrated with email, printing, text-to-speech capabilities and more. Among the following programs are fax servers, scan-and-modem faxing, fax-to-email and back conversions, and even free fax services.

Mighty Fax
Compatible with Windows 95 through XP, Mighty Fax is straightforward and easy to use. With this simple program, you create a document, and then fax it. It also receives, and interfaces with your scanner and printer. Very inexpensive, it comes with free upgrades and even free support.

FAXmaker
Editions of this very popular fax software can integrate with an MS Exchange server or even act as a full fax server itself through Windows 2000/NT. Faxes can be created in MS Word, then sent, received and edited right through MS Outlook. Use your existing address book to making faxing as simple as emailing, and even use MS Word's mail merge function to personalize each fax.

Snappy Fax 2000
Another simple, straightforward fax software package. Create a document with any Windows program, then fax and receive at will. Inexpensive, this single client program will forward faxes automatically, filter out junk faxes, and even comes with a free separate module that allows you to view multiple fax screens at once.

eFax
Web-based faxing at its best. Send and receive any document from any computer with an Internet connection. Your eFax account gives you a dedicated local* or toll free fax number to use without having to buy the extra phone line. The web-based interface allows you to send any document and receive faxes as email attachments. You can even tap into your own mail merge and address book functions to send mass faxings through eFax's Broadcast service.
(*Current local areas include North America, Europe, South America, and Australia.)

Fax Machine
This shareware is as simple as its name implies. It is virtually a fax machine that resides on your computer, using your scanner and printer. You can also fax documents created on your computer, and of course receive faxes as well.

ProtoFax
ProtoFax calls itself an "Internet Fax and Pager Server." Based in any Windows environment, the basic package serves up to 60 users, with unlimited upgrades available. Faxes can be sent and received from the Internet via email, the Web, or even directly from other Windows applications. It will even forward faxed messages to your alphanumeric pager.
